Gipsy children put Hertfordshire constable in the hot seat

HERTFORDSHIRE Constabulary's assistant chief constable has been brought in for questioning by a group of traveller children at the force's headquarters in Welwyn Garden City.

Kathleen Cash, 12, and Eileen Deleaney, six, from Ver Meadows travellers site in Redbourn, were given a rare opportunity to fire questions at Chief Constable Chris Miller after winning a competition held to celebrate Gipsy Roma Traveller History Month in June.

Gipsy children, who come from sites across Hertfordshire, were challenged to submit questions they would like to ask the forces chief officers. The winning question was then selected by journalist Serena Farrow, who originated from a travelling community.

Kathleen and Ellen, along with brothers Michael and Tom, put Constable Miller in the hot seat after they were introduced to the force's two police dogs.

PC Kev Moore said: “I was delighted by the positive response we received and the quality of the questions that were submitted.

"This is the second year running that we have run an event for the children from the travelling community to mark Gipsy Roma Traveller History Month and once again we had an excellent and enthusiastic response.”
