Vandalism hits St Albans trains

TRAINS between St Albans Abbey and Watford Junction this morning were disrupted by vandals who put concrete blocks on the tracks.

The service was suspended for a short time after a train hit the blocks near St Albans Abbey Station.

Karen Blanchette, spokeswoman for Midland Trains, said: "The train ran over part of the blocks, but the vigilant actions of the train driver prevented the unit bumping into any others.

"Fortunately, nobody was harmed on this occasion. But it's worth noting that idiotic behaviour like this puts the safety of passengers and London Midland staff at risk.

"The St Albans Abbey service was fully resumed by 9am this morning."
