DANIEL GOODWIN, the boss of St Albans District Council, is earning £112,703 a year, a survey of top public servants has found.
Mr Goodwin's salary features in a survey carried out by the BBC's Panorama and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism using the Freedom of Information Act.
He earns less than the bosses of Three Rivers District Council and Watford Borough Council, and less than the salary of Tim Wilson, vice chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, who earns £235,500.
The chief executive of Hertfordshire County Council earns more than £200,000, while Jan Filochowski, boss of Watford General, St Albans City, and Hemel Hempstead hospitals, earns over £300,000.
Prime minister David Cameron took a salary cut on coming to office, and is now on £142,500.
