THE countdown to Christmas began in St Albans yesterday when the festive lights were switched on in the city centre.
Crowds turned out for the festive celebrations which took place throughout the day. A Christmas market was set up from 10am, and a fun fair for children to enjoy.
Entertainment was also provided by Heart FM and the St Albans Rock Choir, the cast of the Alban Arena panto and other groups took to the stage providing an afternoon of music.
The 'King of Rock' Elvis Shmelvis proved popular with the crowds with his performances, while the cast of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were also a hit with the children.
Late night shopping also kicked off in St Albans city centre on Thursday, November 17. Retailers in St Peters Street, the Maltings and Christopher Place are taking part in the initiative.
