A DEPRESSED man from St Albans who took a lethal dose of poisonous chemical committed suicide, a coroner ruled yesterday.
The inquest into the death of Christopher Williams heard yesterday how the 27-year-old was prescribed with anti-depressants by his GP, and would express thoughts of taking his own life.
On January 26 this year, Mr Williams was found dead at his Hatfield Road home surrounded by hazardous chemicals - which sparked a major alert in the area.
A post mortem carried out by Professor Sebastian revealed Mr Williams had consumed a fatal amount of a toxic substance which killed him.
The court heard how Mr Williams had a long history of depression and self harming. The trainee accountant was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 1999, he suffered from Crohn's disease and had psychological problems from a young age which would cause him to self-harm.
Coroner Edward Thomas recorded a cause of death as suicide "while the balance of his mind was disturbed".
