SERVICES on the Thameslink line are expected to be severely disrupted until this afternoon, after a man was killed when he was hit by a fast train this morning.
At about 9.45am this morning services came to a standstill following the fatality at St Albans City Station.
Many trains have been cancelled and others travelling towards St Albans have ground to a halt as police and paramedics remain at the scene.
The station was evacuated following the incident and remains closed.
Passengers have spoken of their shock on Twitter. Carrie Sparkle tweeted: "Fatality at St Albans station @firstcc and everyone being evacuated. Passengers milling about."
Another posted: "Got to St Albans only to find someone literally just thrown themselves infront of a fast train. :-( poor guy."
Liz Burton wote: "Sounds like a nasty incident at St Albans. Hope everyone who witnessed and the driver and staff ok."
Many passengers have been stuck on trains on the line following the incident.
Garry Gomersall tweeted: "Stuck on train at Harpenden following fatality reported on the train line at St Albans...incident sounds terrible."
