A TENNIS coach who has inspired generations of young players to take up the sport has received an award for her hard work and dedication.

Liz Jones, from Welwyn, has been coaching at Batchwood Tennis Centre since 1992. Her enthusiasm has motivated scores of young people to develop their talents, including two British Junior Champions who have passed through her ranks.

Liz was chosen as this month's winner of our Inspiring People award, a scheme launched by the St Albans and Harpenden Review newspaper, in conjunction with local solicitors Debenhams Ottaway, which gives recognition to unsung heroes across the district.

Speaking about the award, Liz said: "It's nice, lovely to receive things to recognise the work you do.

"Over the years lots of pupils and children have gone on to variety of careers. It's rewarding to see them move on to bigger and better things."

She added: "Some of those I teach go on to university, or start coaching themselves. One of my pupils has become head coach at Batchwood, it's a lovely circle to be involved in."

Do you know someone who goes that extra mile to support young people in the district?
