Parking charges in St Albans could be frozen as part of a scheme to attract more shoppers and tourists to the city.
St Albans District Council announced plans to keep the cost of parking in the area down at a meeting of the Retail Forum on January 31.
As part of the proposals the council will also conduct a review into the south of the city, including Holywell Hill, Belmot Hill and London Road, to identify ways of supporting retailers.
Pay by phone technology and coach parking facilities will also be explored.
Councillor Beric Read, portfolio holder for community engagement and localism at the council, said: “The council is committed to supporting retailers and restaurant and café owners, by making St Albans more attractive to shoppers and tourists. One way of doing this is to make parking easier and to keep charges under control.
“In finalising these plans, we will balance the interests of local residents, shoppers, tourists and workers, while also paying regard to the need to reduce congestion.”

He's now saying: In finalising these plans, we will balance the interests of local residents, shoppers, tourists and workers, while also paying regard to the need to reduce congestion.
I'm very disappointed that he seems to have forgotten his commitment to improve air quality.
I hope he's not planning to backslide on this one, just like his Libdem predecessor did.
Perhaps he was doing a Rick Perry, and had a memory lapse. I do hope so.
