The men, women and children who were persecuted during World War Two were remembered at a Holocaust commemoration evening in St Albans.
The son of an Auschwitz survivor, representatives from a variety of religions and the mayor joined together on January 30 to remember the thousands of victims.
The theme of this year’s memorial day was Speak Up, Speak Out, and is aimed to try to encourage people to say something when they see or hear something they believe is wrong.
Councillor Aislinn Lee, the Mayor of St Albans City and District, said: “This evening is not just about remembering the atrocities committed against Jewish people and others during the time of Nazi Germany, but also about sharing these lessons of the past and indeed all current occurrences so that we remember to speak up and speak out against all acts of racism and genocide to help create a better world.”
During the service, which was held at Verulamium Museum, Peter Hart, the son of Auschwitz survivor Kitty Hart-Moxon, gave a testimonial in honour of all those who died.
