Pupils at a school in St Albans had the chance to look into the darker side of fairytales during workshops hosted by a famous author.
To celebrate National Storytelling Week, Rachael Fuller visited Townsend Church of England School to talk about her new book, which tells the much-loved stories in an alternative and darker manner.
Children in years seven, eight and nine listened to extracts from Ms Fuller’s first book Faerytale, which is named after the original spelling of the tales.
Fallon Ismail, discovery centre manager at the school, said: “It was really good – all the children got really into it.
“The year sevens are currently studying poetry so it has really helped them along with their course.”
The children who had put the most effort into English over the last term were invited to a workshop with Ms Fuller, where she taught them how to write using narrative rhyme.
