Police have released the photo of a doctor jailed for sexually assaulting a patient at the QEII Hospital in a bid to encourage any other potential victims to come forward.
The 42-year-old locum doctor Hassan Khan was found guilty at St Albans Crown Court yesterday and sentenced to three years in prison.
The charge was brought against the doctor following the assault which happened while he was whilst he was treating a female patient in the A&E department of the Welwyn Garden City hospital in April.
As well as his jail term, Khan, from Edith Grove in Chelsea, has also been disqualified from working with women under 21 and put on the sex offenders register for ten years.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Steve Keating, from the sexual offences investigation team, said: “This man abused his position of trust to assault a young woman who had gone the hospital to seek help.
“Understandably this was an extremely traumatic incident for the victim and I am pleased the seriousness of the offence has been reflected with a prison sentence.
“We never under estimate the courage it takes a victim to contact police and support a prosecution.
"I hope this result shows the dedication of police and the justice system to ensure those responsible for these types of crime are dealt with accordingly.
“We are releasing Hassan Khan’s photograph and appealing to other possible victims to contact us. If you believe you have been assaulted please call police.”
Anyone who has concerns should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary by telephoning the non-emergency number 101.
