Taxpayers to subsidise celebrations to mark Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Taxpayers' money is available to communities wishing to celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June.

Hertfordshire County Council has already agreed to give the residents of Essendon, near Potters Bar, a £1,000 grant to enable villagers to celebrate the royal occasion in style.

A weekend of events is being organised for people of all ages, including cricket matches, a barn dance, hog roast, fancy dress parade, games, a street tea party and much more.

The funding will go towards the cost of the events, publicity, insurance and other necessary purchases.

The grant has been made under the county council's Locality Budget scheme. To apply for funding visit www.hertsdirect.org/localitybudget
