The activities and facilities available to young people in St Albans will be discussed by politicians at a meeting next week.
The district council’s overview and scrutiny committee will receive an update on how the Youth Action Group, which was set up last year to bring organisations that offer services to children in the area together, has been getting on.
Councillor Robert Donald, chairman of the committee, said: "Members of the public have consistently expressed concern that there are not enough facilities provided in the district for young people other than sports and uniformed groups.
"We therefore want to explore with the Youth Action Group what new projects and initiatives they are recommending to the Strategic Partnership should be started in the area.
"While the county council has primary responsibility to make provision for young people via Youth Connexions and clubs like the Pioneer, the district council increasingly has an important partnership and support role to play in this as well.
"Young people are our future and we should ensure that there is sufficient investment in suitable facilities and activities to keep them stimulated and occupied rather than running the risk of some of them being drawn into inappropriate or anti-social behaviour."
The meeting, which will be open to members of the public, will be held at the district council offices at 7pm on Wednesday, February 22.
