A teenage boy has died after being hit by a car yesterday evening near St Albans.
The 18-year-old pedestrian died at the scene on the A4147 Hemel Hempstead Road, at the junction with Appspond and Beechtree Lane, after being hit by a Citroen C3 just before 5pm.
Ambulance crews from Hertford and Hemel Hempstead attended the scene accompanied by Dr David Gaunt from Watford General Hospital.
Gary Sanderson, a spokesman from the ambulance service, said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this tragic time.
"On arrival the boy was found in a critical condition and after everyone’s best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene."
The road remained closed until about 9.45pm last night.
Police are currently investigating the case, and ask that anyone who witnessed the accident to contact PC Andrew Carter on the non-emergency number 101.
