A new school that is due to open in St Albans later this year has appointed its first headteacher.
Janet Goddard will take her position as head at Alban City School on April 16, in preparation for the first intake of students in September.
The new free school will sit inside the former University of Hertfordshire Law School building in Hatfield Road.
Mrs Goddard, who has been the headteacher of Ryde School in Hatfield since 1997, has more than 30 years of experience in education.
She said: "I am extremely pleased to have been appointed to the headship of Alban City School and am looking forward to working with the governors, trustees and parents to bring the vision for the school to reality.
"I am looking forward to bringing my experience and passion for education to Alban City School, thus enabling children to have the best possible education."
The new headteacher was selected by an interview panel including the leader of the free school group and local parents.
Sandra Ison, a local parent who participated in the interview process, said: "Mrs Goddard’s warmth and experience really impressed me - I knew I would feel comfortable placing my children in her care."
