London Colney to get 30 new homes and parking spaces

Politicians have given the go-ahead to proposals to redevelop garage sites in London Colney to create 30 new houses and 50 car parking spaces.
St Albans District Council’s garages working party came up with the plans as part of an initiative to make better use of vandalised, under-utilised, council-owned garage sites in the area.
Following two public consultation meetings at the beginning of the month, which gained positive feedback highlighting the need for additional housing in the area, the council’s cabinet approved the plans at a meeting on Thursday, February 16.
The next step for the council is to apply for outline planning permission, and if this is granted it hopes to transfer the land to a housing association for redevelopment.
Councillor Brian Ellis, chairman of the garages working party and portfolio holder for housing at the council, said: "Now that cabinet has given its backing to the project to redevelop vandalised garage sites in London Colney into much-needed affordable housing for the area, we will be proceeding with this project as quickly as possible."

There are plenty of disused garage blocks on the housing estates around St.Albans, Wheathampstead and Harpenden which could be transformed into council homes for local people.
What with house prices putting most normal people out of reach of ownership, the need for cheap housing is only going to get greater.
