Pancake races, arts and crafts and a singalong were just some of the things on offer to guests at a church in Wheathampstead’s annual Shrove Tuesday celebration.
St Helen’s Church, in High Street, marked yesterday’s religious occasion with a pancake party for children and parents from Beech Hyde and St Helen’s Primary School.
Claire Banham, a licensed lay minister at the church, said: "We feel very strongly that we want to invite the community to come in.
"It is a really good thing that people can come into the church and do something that is fun for the children.
"We had a brilliant afternoon."
Children had the chance to decorate plates and to make stained glass window hangings during the afternoon, which was attended by more than 60 youngsters and their parents.
