A BUSINESSMAN from Harpenden has spoken of problems he has faced since the hosepipe ban came into force, as people say they are unaware companies are exempt.

Alex Bracken, who owns Herts Pressure Washing, said his main concern is people do not know businesses such as his are exempt from the hosepipe ban.

As a result the 33-year-old said his residential and commercial pressure cleaning business has lost about 50 per cent of trade since the ban came into force on Thursday, April 5.

Mr Bracken said: "Business is just suffering at the moment. Most people aren't aware the laws don't affect those who provide a service.

"I'm even getting funny looks off people when I'm out using the pressure washer.

"I can only think I've lost trade because of the ban."

Mr Bracken has urged people to check Veolia Water's website for information on the exemptions.
