Sainsbury's in Harpenden has named Community Meeting Point (CMP) as its local charity partner of the year 2012/13.

CMP, in Station Road, Harpenden, offers day opportunities for adults facing mental health issues, as well as running a charity shop in Station Road.

It has 60 volunteers and aims to assist all affected by mental health issues on the road to recovery by encouraging and promoting independent living.

CMP's aim is to support members to regain skills, self confidence and interests and enable them to have the same opportunities and choices as everyone else in the community. It believes this will help to break social isolation.

CMP's David Brentnall said "We are delighted to be nominated as Sainsbury's charity partner. Mental health work is changing rapidly not least in terms of its funding structures.

"With the changes in government funding for care services we believe that the work of CMP is even more vital in supporting local individuals who have these needs and who may otherwise may not have access to such support.

"Therefore CMP has to continue to diversify its support base."

Community Meeting Point is a registered charity and subsidiary of Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association, a regional housing association which operates in Hertfordshire.
