POPULAR interest in the St Albans eco house has meant it will be opened for an additional day to the district's residents.
Just under 100 people came to view the house in Smallford on Thursday, October 26, between 9.30am and noon. An extra open day on Saturday, November 4, will allow those to come and see it who were unable to do so during the week.
Several hundred other people were able to visit the house during open days for schools, businesses, council tenants and staff.
The traditional 1950s house has been transformed into an energy efficient home by St Albans District Council and includes a number of energy and water saving features.
The house is thought to be one of the first projects of its kind.
All of the features in the house are monitored so that data from them can be used to inform the council as to which elements would best be invested in.
Councillor Aislinn Lee, portfolio holder for housing said: "I urge everyone who can come to see these inspirational examples of what individual householders can do to make a real difference in reducing our energy usage.
"We will be sharing the information with private homeowners and demonstrating how these affordable changes can make a real difference."
