St Albans District Council hold talks with First Capital Connect

BOSSES at First Capital Connect, which has recently come under fire for its poor service, have confirmed an improved compensation package for its customers.

Larry Heyman, a representative for the rail company, met councillors at St Albans District Council this week after being invited to respond to concerns raised by residents.

Councillors sitting on the overview and scrutiny public services panel hit out at the severely disrupted service caused by the dispute with drivers over pay and overtime and also the problems faced by commuters during the bad weather conditions.

FCC confirmed at the meeting on Wednesday, January 13, that it will propose a revised and improved compensation offer to its service users over the next few days.

Councillor Beric Read, chairman of the district council's overview and scrutiny panel, said: “Residents are very angry about the poor service they have received. We hope we will see a rapid improvement in the next few days and also look forward to hearing about First Capital Connect's improved compensation package and communication plan.”

The Review revealed this week that rail bosses at FCC and trains drivers have reached an agreement over its long-running pay dispute.

Members of the train drivers' union, Aslef, accepted a revised pay offer hopefully signalling an end to the problems.

Are you eligible for compensation and what are your hopes of an improved offer? Tell us below.

I think most would agree that whatever FCC offer as compensation for the appalling service they have delivered over the last 3 months, it is going to be too little too late. I won't see this new offer stopping the petition (http://petitions.nu
mber10.gov.uk/FirstC
C/) being signed to have FCC stripped of their franchise.

I hope everyone is not expecting much compensation from First Capital Connect. Their behaviour over the past few months has been shocking as has the behaviour also of the drivers, such as abandoning trains at St.Albans station while they insist on having a break, which is what happened this week. Claiming compensation from the on-line site, which FCC advise, is also a waste of time, I have tried to submit claims dozens of times and the site keeps rejecting the claims stating errors. A cynical person would say that FCC know claims are being rejected but this is a cheap option for them by not repairing the site.

You bet we are angry. I observed this meeting and Larry Heyman’s performance. My husband arrived late due to the trains, he looked tired and haggard.

Mr Heyman trotted out all the excuses you could think of - and more. Computer software issues on the web-site, even problems of glare due to the colours of the web-pages that had to be overcome!

Yesterday morning, after listening to some of Mr Heyman’s presentation the night before, my husband was stuck, (as I have commented elsewhere) on a train between St Pancras and Farringdon for over 1 ½ hours.

I suggest Mr Heyman, his colleagues and the drivers have a mountain to climb to retrieve any loss of reputation.

FCC are truly appalling. Rather than summarise, suggest anyone interested looks at the catalogue of grief and anger on:
