Residents sign petition in anger over reappearing potholes in St Albans road

The pothole which has reappeared in Woodstock Road South. The pothole which has reappeared in Woodstock Road South.

RESIDENTS in a St Albans street who are at their wits' end with reappearing potholes are calling on Hertfordshire County Council to take immediate action to repair the state of the road.

More than 30 people living in Woodstock Road South have signed a petition which will be sent to the Highways Panel meeting next week.

County Councillor Chris White said despite temporary repairs on the potholes around three weeks ago they are back with a vengeance.

He says while driving in the area he saw one resident has resorted to producing their own sign with the words 'and potholes' immediately under a warning about speed humps.

Councillor White said: “I have managed to persuade the county council that this road cannot wait several years.

“But it is now clear that it cannot even wait several months. I have asked for an update.”

He also said this weekend his daughter was faced with a burst tyre after she hit an unmarked pothole in Drakes Drive.

Since the big freeze at the beginning of the year Hertfordshire County Council has estimated it will cost around £5.5 million to repair the road network which has been plagued by potholes.

The Review has contacted the county council for information on the repairs.

Great stuff, I'm really torn on this, on one hand, I wish this time, as it is proven, doing work on Roads on the cheap doesn't work in the long run, they do it all properly and pay the going rate for a PROPER JOB! (must be the case as some are fine). On the other hand, driving around St Albans is reminding me of such wonderful memories of travelling through dust tracks on a bus in the mountains of third world countries. I can't figure out whether I prefer my car being ruined on the Roads but ignoring it becasue of the constant reminders of happy times or not, I think the memories will wear off, fix the Roads please!

as a cyclist these roads are leathal, especially when rain has filled in massive potholes. I bet it would be near impossible to get any compensation for injury or damage from roads the council should be maintaining, but you will get fined as quick as that for parking on a white line or no recycling properly. It is time the people of st.albans held the council to account and started fining them back.
