THE daughter of a St Albans woman nominated in the Review's search for a local hero has praised her mum's hard work and dedication.

Jo Swanston was put forward for a Community Gold Award alongside Chloe Halfhide to recognise the pair's commitment to local girlguiding.

Hannah Swanston said: “My mum is not only a fantastic mother to me, but literally to hundreds of other other young girls across Hertfordshire. If she was paid even one penny for every time she placed an act of kindness, then she would be a millionaire right now.

“But, it is not about the money which is why she has given over more then 20 years of her life to Girlguiding voluntarily.”

Jo has been described by Hannah as an integral part of the movement and a pillar of leadership who “often lends a shoulder to cry on and giving sound advice to many teenagers on a weekly basis.”

Hannah added: “She is a very down to earth and humble lady, who is horrified that she even deserves this award.

“I am always greeted by random people coming up to me in the street telling me that they love my mum – of course I know why.

“Well done for everything that you have done mum, we are so proud of you and you deserve the recognition to be compensated in golden gratitude.”
