A COUPLE who nominated the latest winners of the Review's Community Gold Award have expressed their delight at the news of their success.
John and Kathleen Turner thought it was essential the bricklaying and contruction students at Oaklands College received some kind of recognition.
The students came to the rescue when the pensioners were conned by a rogue builder.
John, 80, of Ladies Grove told the Review: "Me and my wife are absolutely delighted to hear they won.
"It's a pleasure to see everyday the work those lads did.
"My wife said to me it's a shame they can't be paid but it's not a case of money with them, it's giving them a bit of credit which they have received by winning your award.
"This is going to do the lads a world of good for their future."
Around 14 students led by their tutor Andy Rosser re-built the couple's front garden wall which was promised by the untraceable builder who ran off with £800 of Mr Turner's savings.
