Police are appealing for witnesses and information after an elderly man in a wheelchair was robbed on Friday (November 30).

The incident happened at about 4.20pm on Old French Horn Lane. The man, in his 60s, had crossed the Pelican Crossing when he heard someone behind him, who asked if he had any change. When he said he did not, one man held him down from behind while a second man searched his coat.

They then released him, making off with his wallet, which was later found discarded at the scene. They had taken a very small amount of cash.

Detective Constable Alex Kettle-Stupka, from the Local Crime Unit, said: "This was a callous offence against a vulnerable elderly man, who could not defend himself, and for very little gain by the offenders.

"I am very keen to hear from anyone who knows anything about this incident, saw it take place or can identify the offenders so we can bring them to justice for this cold-hearted crime.

"In particular, he saw a lady at the nearby crossing before he was held down and I am very keen to speak to her in case she saw any of the incident."

Anyone with any information on this crime should ring DC Kettle-Stupka via the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers (an independent charity) anonymously on 0800 555111. The crime reference is B2/11/4386.
