The Conservatives lost three seats in the Welwyn Hatfield area following yesterdays County Council elections. Most notably, Tory cabinet minister Stuart Pile was defeated in Hatfield South by Hatfield Against Incineration campaigner Paul Zukowskyj representing the LibDems. Throughout the Borough, UKIP received some strong support but could not produce a winner. Labour's Maureen Cook took a Tory seat in Hatfield North with another Labour gain in Welwyn GC South. Turn out was 28%; an improvement on the 21% who voted in last year's Borough Council elections.
The Conservatives remain in overall control at County Hall.
