Retailer of the Year veterans A&C Meats claimed an astonishing third victory in four years in the food and drink category last year.

But can the popular Catherine Street-based butchers make it four out of five years?

The popular shop was again nominated by loyal customers in their dozens last year but faces a tough battle to hold on to its crown with a number of nominations already received.

This year the food and drink category is sponsored by the Federation of Small Businesses.

Owner Carl Hatfull celebrated victory with his hard-working staff last year and said: “It’s great news to win it again. It’s great recognition for the shop and its staff, who have made this possible again.

“But, ultimately it is the customers that put you in these positions so we have to thank them for their loyalty."

You can nominate retailers in one of six categories - fashion and accessories; specialist shops; markets trader; restaurants and cafes, food and drink and hair and beauty.

All nominations should be received by midnight on May 11. After this date our team of mystery shoppers will hit the streets, putting each and every retailer to the test. All nominated retailers will also be sent a window poster so they can blow their own trumpets.

The competition is a joint initiative between the Review, St Albans District Council, St Albans Civic Society and St Albans District Chamber of Commerce.

To nominate a retailer text the name of the trader you want to nominate by texting the word ‘retailer’ followed by the name and address of the business to 80360. Texts cost 50p.

Or simply call 09011510856 and leave your nomination and details when prompted.
