At Margaret Wix Primary School in St Albans, teachers and parents have been championing the importance of reading at home for ten minutes every night since the launch of their initiative, "Give Me Ten" in January 2013.
The project is now in its second year and the school celebrated the success of the project by crowning a group of children as "Reading Ambassadors".
These children had read for at least 10 minutes every night last academic year, an amazing total of 275 times.
Children received badges, certificates and special books to celebrate their success.
“At Margaret Wix we believe that daily reading at home with parents is paramount to academic success. It instils a love of reading and it so important for success in life”, said Susan Braceland, Deputy Headteacher.
Last week ITV’s Good Morning launched their own campaign “Just Read”, which also champions the importance of daily reading at home.
