MISUNDERSTANDINGS, plots and counterplots are in abundance at the Thame Players' latest production Caught On The Hop, written by Derek Benfield.
The farcical comedy centres on the impressionable character of Phil who announces to his friend George that he has fallen in love with a girl on the top deck of a 49 bus. George, who has seen this sort of affair come and go before, takes what his friend has to say with a pinch of salt but is shocked to discover that Phil is not only leaving his wife, but is to move into the house next door with his new girlfriend. It is when this leads to accidents, confusion and mistaken identity that George begins to realise that the ties of friendship are beginning to be stretched a little bit too far.
Carol Duncan, from the Players, says: "Caught on the Hop was universally praised on its original run Ð the Thame Players will definitely keep that legend going."
Derek Benfield has written a number of plays in the farce genre, including Fly in the Ointment, Look Who's Talking and Wild Goose Chase.
Caught on the Hop is at the Players Theatre, Nelson Street in Thame from September 9 to 13 at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £7 adults, £6 concessions from Thame Tourist Information Centre in North Street, call 01844 212834 or from the theatre during the week of the show from 7pm to 8pm, call 01844 212012.
