I FEEL as though I shouldn't like this movie.

It's low-brow comedy and everyone involved looks like they're having way too much fun to be producing anything even vaguely presentable.

But I defy you to sit through this film and keep a straight face.

There are hints of its movie predessors, Anchorman and Dodgeball, in some lines - which is no bad thing - but Blades of Glory shines in its set pieces more than its dialogue.

The opening ice routines are at once ridiculous and underplayed, with great costumes and at one point Napoleon Dynamite's John Heder, releasing a live dove, and there is a wonderful chase sequence later in the movie between Arrested Development's Will Arnett and Will Ferrell where they both stagger along on their ice skates.

On the other hand, it wouldn't have taken much to raise the quality of the quiet moments to the same high standard and I don't think I'm going to be quoting this latest outing in the same way that Anchorman's lines have stuck with me.

But Blades of Glory is still head and shoulders above most comedies currently on release, so it's definitely worth a watch.
