Rolling with the Stones

5:12pm Friday 9th May 2008

Recreating the magic of the Rolling Stones is a tribute act with a difference. The Counterfeit Stones have been impersonating Mick, Ronnie et al for more than 15 years, and are coming to The Alban Arena with their new show.

It's Phoney Rock n' Roll covers the entire history of the Rolling Stones, from their early '60s incarnations to the stadium gigs of the 1980s.

The show will contain live renditions of the Stones' music, alongside spoof film clips, replica costumes, dance moves, banter and more.

Made up of Nick Dagger (played by Steve Elson), Keef Rickard (Bill Lennon), Bill Hymen (Alan Mian) Bryon Jones, Mick Tailor-Made, Ronnie B Good (all played by David Birnie), Charlie Mott (John Prynn) and Manfred Mann, Nicky Popkiss, and Chuck Ravel (all played by Holger Skepeneit), the band recently featured in a BBC Radio 2 documentary called Earth, Wind For Hire.

Presented by comedian Bill Bailey, the programme explored the tribute band phenomenon.

Other accolades for the Counterfeit Stones came when they were asked to record music for Stephen Woolley's film Stoned, charting the life and death of Brian Jones.

They also recorded songs for the soundtrack of Channel 4 documentary Who Killed The Rolling Stone?, which again focused on Brian Jones' life with the Stones and his death.

The Counterfeit Stones are appearing at The Alban Arena on Friday, May 9 at 7.30pm. Tickets: 01727 844488 (£16.50)
