The Ultimate 60s - Review

DR Who’s TARDIS came in very handy at the Theatre Royal Windsor, on Sunday as tribute band The Imposters stepped out from that blue police box and on to stage for one of the best musical moves down memory lane.

The Ultimate 60s show starring the four piece marvels that are The Imposters took us back in time to witness some of the best music of the era.

Ian Latimer, Mitch Deighton, Ricky Barber and Greg Webb, donned not just the moptop hair cuts of The Beatles but the long wigs and psychedelic clothing of the summers of love as we were treated to much more than just the ‘Fab Four’.

Icons form the decade of decadence were brought before us in all their glory.

From Manfred Mann, Cliff and The Shadows, The Monkees and Everly Brothers to Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones we were treated to the major hits of the 60s.

The Telstar sound and guitar styles of the era were spot on from a slick, tight band that really knows how to capture the mood of the 60s in every authentic detail.

Mick Jagger was an absolute scream as he pranced around in all his glory while The Beatles were as good a tribute as I have seen.

Again, the ‘Royal is the focus of great Sunday nights out as a good audience turned out to be taken back in time.

Great style, iconic reverence but irreverent humour which marked out the era was all there.

And we were treated to brief quizzes on the TV adverts of the day, like ‘Mild Green Fairy Liquid’ - remember ‘hands that do dishes’? - as screens flashed some of our favourite programmes; Thunderbirds, ‘Till Death Us Do Part, Z Cars and many more as we clapped along to superb songs.

Dancing in the aisles is now a normal aspect of Sunday nights at the ‘Royal you might as well do away with the seats.

Another cracker. Keep ‘em coming and coming back.

Paul Thomas
