With a tribe of Indians a gang of Mexican and a smattering of old timers in the saloon, Wendover Theatre Society offered a pantomime with a difference.
Nick Heritage gave a strong performance as the evil Geronimo with Gordon Bishop playing his counterpart the good chief and his daughter Pocahontis performed by Jo Newbon who beautifully sang with her father.
James Marriott was endearing as The Milky Bar Kid and the dame Calamity of the title role was played by David Payne dressed in some beautiful costumes complete with blue wig.
There was an amusing panto horse and a delightful dancing bear. Caron Scott was the glamorous Candy Bar owner of the Golden Nugget Saloon and the two hapless members of the Pitt Gang Angeline and Jolie were played respectively by Rona Heritage and Wendy Claridge.
A fine performance was given by Colin Arney as El Gwapo and a special mention should go to Zac Abbott for his very convincing role as the effeminate member of the gang who seemed to think he was in the wrong panto. There was a superb backdrop, painted by the cast and crew and an ultra violet scene with a brightly coloured totem pole and exciting prancing horses.
Well directed by Ellen David the chorus numbers were performed with enthusiasm and the bar room ladies danced a lively Can Can. The pace was good throughout and the audience roared their approval. The show ended with the cast performing a remarkable line dance as the audience clapped along. A good time was had by all.
