Do you remember when St Albans looked like this?

These images were sent in by St Albans Camera Club. The first was taken in 1972.

A description of the scene reads: "The shop on the corner of Catherine Street and St Peters Street is Spurrier the cake shop, then - Mc Mullens self service (formally the Co-op Butchers shop) - Sketchley Ltd dry cleaners - General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation Ltd. -- Freeman Grieve Ltd. Chemists. ( now trading further along St Peters Street as Derek's Phamacy)."

The second image was photographed in 1982.

Its description says: "On the corner of Catherine Street and St Peters Street is Harris Carpets (now still a carpet shop with another name) then Freeman Grieve Ltd. I can't work out the other shops beyond except Youngsters Ltd. nursery furniture, (formally The Toddlers shop), behind the "no right turn sign" in the picture."

St Albans Camera Club consists of enthusiasts at various skill levels and welcomes new members of all ages. It meets in the Community Centre, St Brelades Place, Jersey Farm, on Tuesday evenings.

St Albans in Pictures celebrates the city's best photographers. If you would like to contribute an image of St Albans and a few paragraphs on how you took it please email
