Railfreight company's pause for thought

HELIOSLOUGH will not be rushed into any decisions after the defeat of its plans to build a huge goods yard outside Park Street, its boss Simon Hoare has told the Review.

Mr Hoare, the company's spokesman and managing director, said the various parties involved with the project, who include DB Schenker, Europe's largest operator of goods trains, would analyse the decision letter in detail before deciding their next step.

He said: "We will be sitting down as a team and going through it in some considerable detail.

"That is only what people would expect, particularly when you have an inspector who says one thing and a Secretary of State who says something completely different.

"We will come to a decision in due course."

Oh, Mr Hoare does not want to be rushed now, he was happy to rush to appeal last summer even before the district council had met to determine the application!

If Helioslough appeal they must stand a reasonable chance of success in the Highy Court where the judges will see this intervention for what it is - political gerrymandering to protect the interests of the local MPs who of course happen to be fellow tories.

If the inspector reached his decision based on a reasoned judgment of the facts presented to him at the Inquiry, the courts will surely overturn Cheese and Pickles' ruling.

The facts presented to the Inquiry were a bit misleading - the traffic data presented was projections for 2016, when elsewhere in the HS submission they (HS) stated that the full capacity of the site, ie 10,000 vehicle movements a day, would not be achieved until 12 years after opening, around 2025. In 2016, the new roundabout on the A414 is already over-capacity, and they did not supply capacity figures for the London Colney R-A-B at all. How did Herts Highways miss this? I don't know, but they declined to appear at the second Inquiry for fear of having costs awarded against them. HS can therefore claim that what they say, that the traffic will flow unhindered with not a rain-cloud in the sky, is correct. So the fact that total tosh goes unchallenged doesn't stop it being total tosh.
Oh hang on, it appears it does

When did Simon Hoare become MD? Last I heard he was their consultant and spokesman. He's not listed as a Director on their website.
