THE cost of defeating the railfreight project for St Albans District Council has been well over £1 million so far, even before it coughs up its share of the developer's expenses.
The authority's total legal bill for the 2009 inquiry was £707,584, and Helioslough's bill, of which the council is likely to have to pay about half, could be substantially higher.
The council's bill for the first public inquiry was £415,174.
