Barmond United have made it through to the third round of the Herts Junior Cup for the first time as they overcame Welwyn St Mary’s Reserves in a penalty shoot-out.

At this stage last season, United crashed out of the competition following a record 16-1 loss. However, despite going behind, Jake Pratt equalised for Barmond with a superb direct free-kick.

The visitors regained their lead shortly before the interval but a second-half strike from Barry Hensman beat the keeper from outside the box to level the contest again.

Neither team could find a winner in normal or extra-time so the match went to penalties.

Mark Church, Pratt, Haydn Essam and Liam Donovan all converted their spot-kicks to see Barmond into the next round.

Despite only having ten men for their away match against Oxhey Wanderers, Cornerstone produced a fine performance to seal a 7-1 victory.

After withstanding early pressure from the hosts, Cornerstone went ahead when Adam Pennington’s shot beat the goalkeeper.

The goal rattled the home side and, despite their man advantage, Cornerstone extended their lead as Pennington struck twice to seal a 20-minute hat-trick before Oxhey pulled a goal back to go in 3-1 behind at the break.

In the second period, the visitors were expecting Wanderers to attack their defence. However, the hosts could not create a clear opening and the clinical Pennington made them pay as he struck twice more.

Paul Kersey and Aaron Hutber also found the net to complete a resounding win for Cornerstone.

Goals from Richard Aylott and Steven Young helped FC Letchworth secure a 2-1 victory against Three Churches, while Tansley lost 6-2 at Hadley. Matt Paine and Steve Newton scored the consolations.

There was disappointment for Warriors XI as they were beaten 3-0 against Oracle Components, while London Colney Blues and Buntingford Cougars progressed as their opponents conceded the games.

In the only league contest of the day, AFC Baldock easily defeated Buntingford Cougars 13-2.

Mat Ryall netted a hat-trick, with Lee Garrett, Adam Sayer, Jeff List and Aaron Slack all grabbing braces. Toby Reeves and Scott Hagland also found the net to help Baldock to victory. Adebyo Ademeyi and Matthew Scott replied for Buntingford.
