Verulamians were on the money as they eased to a 24-5 win at the Bank of England.

The win was built on the momentum of a dominant pack, with tries coming from lock Ross Graham and replacement forward Sam Crowne, and the astute game management of the Vees midfield.

Graham was given the space to beat the first defender and crash over the line following centre Michael Hollister’s hard gain line running. Tom Crowne missed the conversion but the visitors took a five point lead.

An attack from the home side levelled the score. On the stroke of half-time the visitors were awarded a penalty due to an infringement at the break down and Crowne took the three points to give the Vees a deserved advantage.

The forwards’ hard work was rewarded with two penalty kicks in quick succession that allowed the visitors to open up a nine point lead.

Verulamians cemented their control of the scoreboard with a second try. Quick ball allowed the influential Crowne to take the ball to the line before he released a deft offload to brother Sam, who cut a hard angle to crash over and seal the win.
