Comfortable win for Nuffield St Albans

Nuffield St Albans enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 victory over Bishops Stortford in the 1st Division Hertfordshire Squash League last week.

Jack Jago at second string got off to the ideal start when he raced into a 2-0 lead against Matt Delaney.

A loss of concentration in the third game cost Jago though, as Delaney capitalised to take the game to a tie-break at 10-10. Delaney then took the match in a fourth game despite Jago’s resilience.

Jago made amends in the fourth game, winning the match to set to Nuffield on their way to victory.

Number one play Adam Auckland started slowly against Stortford’s Charlie Johnson, losing the first game 11-5 before turning the tables on Johnson to win the second game 11-3.

Auckland then went ahead, winning the third game 11-5. Johnson was not beaten however, winning the fourth game 12-10 following a thrilling tie-break.

In the fifth and deciding game, Auckland raced into an 8-2 lead before eventually winning the game 11-4 and the match 3-2.

Ondrej Uherka, Nuffield’s young Czech player, comfortably beat Matt Potter to secure the St Albans team victory on the night.

Uherka won 3-0, 11-4, 11-8, 11-4, playing good length shots to the back of the court and exposing his opponent with accurate drop shots at the front.

Will John, Nuffield’s fourth string player wasted no time making sure that he did his job by winning 3-0 against Gavin Noffkil, 11-6, 11-3, 11-6.

Finally, Tom James overcame Alistair Ambrose in four games, winning the decisive game 12-10 to help Nuffield to maximum points on the day and move a step closer to their first title in 10 years.
