A combined effort from the Ladies of St Albans and Townsend Bowling Clubs were defeated 90 shots to 68 by Hatfield Indoor Ladies in the annual indoor fixture.

The indoor fixture last Thursday proved a challenge too far for the Townsend line-up, because they are all outdoor bowlers, but St Albans Ladies triumphed in both of their rinks.

Sybil Steers skipped a St Albans team including Pauline Gardiner, Carol Jeavons and Brenda Pitkin to a 24-10 win over Kath Monk’s Hatfield team.

This success was followed up by a 23-17 defeat of Sheila Robert’s Hatfield charges masterminded by a team comprised of Eileen Englebright, Tricia Gascoine, Joan Courtney and skip Betty Lawrence.

The outdoor bowls season begins in April and coaching courses will be taking place for beginners wishing to take up the sport.

St Albans Bowling Club are offering four free lessons with a qualified coach and interested parties can contact Tricia Gascoine on 01727 860298 or email her at a.gascoine@ntlworld.com.

Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
