City of St Albans Swimming Club finish fourth at league final

City of St Albans swimming club's position in Division One of the Herts Major League remains secure after the A team finished fourth in the standings at the league final.

The team accomplished three superb first places, including Ben Muckleston in the Under-12 boys 50m butterfly and the quartet of Alex Ong, Oliver Perry, Ross Ferreira and Elliot Wylie who stormed to victory in the boys Under-14 4 x 50m medley and freestyle relays. They won by a significant margin making them undefeated in all three rounds this season.

The Under-12s produced some solid performances with Grace Wylie finishing second in the 50m backstroke and third in the 50m freestyle. Lauren Stott came second in the 50m butterfly while Monica Ong was second in the 50m breaststroke.

The team of Grace Wylie, Monica Ong, Ella Chown and Lauren Stott notched up a second place in the medley relay and a third place in the freestyle relay. In the boys Under-12s, Ben Muckleston added to his butterfly victory with second place in the 50m freestyle.

Strong performances by Thomas Toland, Thomas Cadenhead, Ben Muckleston and Elliot Hitchen saw the boys swim to second place in the medley relay and third place in the freestyle relay.

The Under-14 boys produced some excellent individual swims with Oliver Perry achieving two second places in the 100m freestyle and butterfly, Elliot Wylie achieving second in the 100m backstroke and Alex Ong third in the 100m breaststroke.

There were also plenty of top three places in the Under-16 boys and girls events. Liam Curran came second in the 100m butterfly, Lauren Winfield second in the 100m backstroke, Robbie Lightowler was runner-up in the 100m backstroke and third in the 100m freestyle and Peter Hensman third in the 100m breaststroke.

The boys relay teams of Robbie Lightowler, Liam Curran, Peter Hensman and Zac Horne performed very well, securing second place in the freestyle relay and third in the medley relay.

In the open category, individual top three places were achieved by Laura Coffey, gaining third in the 100m backstroke and James Loveman gaining second in the 100m breaststroke.

Head coach, Stewart Melton said: "It was a great team performance and I am very proud of all of them." The club is now looking forward to the County Championships taking place later this month.
