Challenge Cup exit for St Albans Rangers

St Albans Rangers Under-16 Reds were unlucky to bow of the Challenge Cup quarter-finals after a 2-1 defeat to HMH.

Rangers led following Callum Moriarty's goal for most of the cup tie. But they were pegged back when a penalty was awarded following an apparent dive by an HMH player.

Reds keeper Kieran Clayton brilliantly saved the penalty only for the ref to order it to be taken again which resulted in the equaliser.

Rangers pressed hard for the win but were caught on the break just before full time to bow out of the cup undeservedly.

Rangers Under-10s Blue produced another fine performance and were unlucky to lose 5-1 against top-of-the-table Oakhill Tigers. In a hard-fought first half, Oakhill scored but the side equalised through Louis Webb.

An Oakhill penalty was saved by the outstanding Robbie Wallace ensured the game was level at the break.

The second half saw Rangers push for a winner only to be undone by superb counter attacking football by Oakhill.

The defensive partnership were outstanding with Dan Pedder putting in a characteristic tireless performance and looking dangerous on throw ins and set pieces. Lewis Horden also stood out after another magnificent defensive display.
