Townsend earned a 65-44 win at home to Oakhill in their three rink Eversley Trophy match.

The victorious rinks featured Alfie Long, David Day, Dave Houghton and Andrew Briden who won by 25-17.

Peter Thomson, Roger Potter, Gary West and Danny Macro triumphed 17-11 while Jason Hall, Peter Armstrong, John Godman and Richard Briden won 23-14.

In their midweek friendly at Harpenden, Townsend won by three rinks to one and by 90 shots to 57.

As the score indicates, there were many noteworthy performances but top rink went to the team of Alan Foster, Mike Haslam and Mike Cowell, led by the inimitable Kurt Jolles, who had been awarded his hot shot badge for his part in obtaining a maximum eight shots in one end on a previous match.

Not content with that, Jolles led his rink to a 33-9 triumph.

The Friday night triples league matches resulted in two wins for Townsend.

In the Watford and District encounter with Kitcheners, the home rink of Richard Morgan, Mike Haslam and Andy Scarborough won 16-8.

The away rink, of Les Perkins, Fred Mulberry and Tony Izzard, were pipped 14-13, despite having been in the lead throughout.

In the St Albans and District League a thrilling home tie saw the Townsend trio of Barry Robinson and his son Carl, along with Ted Marriott draw 14-14.

The away team, of David Carter, Mike Doherty and Gordon Williamson, meanwhile won 16-13, ensuring the points went to Townsend.

In the District Pairs, Thomson and Houghton proceeded to the third round at the expense of Welwyn and District’s pair skipped by Chris Read.

Although the final score was a convincing 24-12, the early running was made by the visitors who led 8-1 at one stage.

In the triples, Thomson and Houghton were joined by Jason Hall, and succeeded in defeating a strong Harpenden trio, skipped by Tony Redford.

The match was conceded by the visitors after 14 ends with the score at 30-9. Harpenden won the first two ends leading 7-0, but the hosts were to win 30 of the next 32 points to clinch the tie.
