Harpenden Bowling Club’s Linda Brooks claimed a 21-12 win over St Albans' Eileen Cox in the third round of the county unbadged singles.

Janet Hubball also managed a 21-13 victory over Batchwood's Kate Horner.

Harpenden Ladies played a friendly away at Potten End. Three of the four rinks won with the overall score of 72-56 in their favour.

Two rinks gained the best score of 20-8, but the team which won the most ends was Debbie Turner, Lyn Roberts and Lesley Tutt.

Lucy Ratcliffe, Beryl Birch and Val Thomson won the District Benevolent Triples at Potters Bar.

David Brooks, John Osborn, Rick Catchpole and John Williams reached the county fours neutral green stage with a 22-12 victory against a team from Potters Bar.

In the second round of the St Albans & district pairs, Brooks and Kevin Brazier had a 30-10 win against a side from Hemel Hempstead.

Brazier and Brooks also had a 19-18 victory against a team from Luton in the second round of the London & Southern counties pairs.

In the ladies district Friday league, Harpenden's team of Jan Holland, Val Thomson and Diana Davies won on both rinks by three shots at home. The side featuring Lucy Ratcliffe, Pauline Taylor and Sheila Rider also won by one shot at Hemel Hempstead.

The second round of the district singles saw Rob Newby beat Guy Edwards of Welwyn and District 21-17 by achieving four on the final end.

In the third round of the men’s county club team championship, Harpenden lost by only one point to Potters Bar.

The fourth round of the national mixed pairs saw Simon Burgess and Dena Roberts beat Mike Parsons (Baldock) and Muriel Saunder (St Ippolyts) 21-10. They conceded at 19 ends. In the fourth round of the men’s national top club against Garston, Noel Roberts won the two wood singles 16-15 to start Harpenden with their first point.

It was 15-15 on 21 ends so they played an extra end to get a winner. The four wood singles was won by Garston 21-17 in a close game played by John Osbourne. The triples with Tom Muir, David Brookes and Kevin Brazier had a decent 18-13 win.

The fours team of Tony Redford, Ken Murray, Jack Blissett and Colin Driscoll played well but lost 23-14. This made the score two points each and the result depended on the pairs, Nick Muir and Woodie Donoghue.

On the 20th end Garston took the lead 19-18. In dusk conditions, on the last end, the lead changed with every bowl but Harpenden finished with two shots resulting in a 20-19 score for a 3-2 overall win.
