St Albans Bowling Club sealed a victory over Berkhamsted in the second round of the Jones Cup.

The home team of Andy Kay, Alan Turner, Ken Harding and Steve Wilson won 19-13 while the away team of Phil Macarthur, Ted Salvidge, John Bartlett and Ken Budd won 34-15. St Albans play either Townsend or Hemel Hempstead in the semi-final.

The St Albans Ladies played Harpenden in the district triples league. At home Sylvia Cooper, Jacy Farrer and Eileen Cox beat Jan Holland’s team 25-12.

The away side of Pauline Gardiner, Doreen Gray and Joyce Wilson beat Lesley Tutt’s team 15-14. St Albans gained all 6 available league points and are lying in third place in section B of the league table.

The men played Harpenden in the Bob Vise trophy. St Albans had an excellent win in the triples with Alan Turner, John Bartlett and Tony Rylands defeating Dave Brook’s team 23-7.

Steve Wilson had a very close singles game against Rob Newby and was only defeated in the last two ends, losing 21-18. St Albans only had a two shot deficit overall of 72-70 but unfortunately lost on three of the four disciplines as Harpenden won 3-1.

St Albans’ midweek men played Townsend losing the match 104-70. The top rink was Gordon Butcher, Phil Macarthur and Rod Perks (24-11).

The ladies also played Townsend midweek. St Albans were winning on both rinks with a combined score of 21-8, the match was curtailed due to the extremely hot weather conditions. The ladies midweek match against Garston was cancelled due to the extreme weather conditions.

In the St Albans & district officers singles competition, Ken Budd lost 21-15 to Peter Stokes of North Mymms.

St Albans Ladies played Harperbury in the St Albans & District Ladies double rink competition and the home team lost 22-12. The away team were holding three shots on the final end but Harperbury’s skip came in with her final bowl picking up the jack and winning the game 16-15. Harperbury go through to play Harpenden in the next round.

St Albans played Shire Park with three men’s rinks and a ladies triples match. It was an overall 88-66 win for Shire Park. The ladies had a good 25-14 win which was also the top rink for Pauline Gardiner, Tricia Gascoine and Marjorie Knight.

The side played Kings Langley with three mixed rinks. It was a fine afternoon’s bowling with a 61-48 win for St Albans. The top rink was Andy Kay, Jean Budd, Tony Morris and Dave Kiff (26-11).
