Mid Herts Junior Golfers finished undefeated in six matches in the Lexus Junior Golf League to qualify for the regional final at Erewash Valley Golf Club this month.
The Lexus League is made up of 22 junior teams from clubs throughout Hertfordshire who play in four different pools. Mid Herts Juniors, whose home course is in Gustard Wood near Wheathampstead, topped their group and reached the semi-final against Redbourn.
Despite the fact two County fixtures took away players from both teams, the tie produced some excellent golf, and on numerous occasions birdies were needed to win holes.
Redbourn fielded a team of five single figure handicappers including the Under-16 county captain and their highest handicap player played off 13.
Mid Herts only had two single figure players available and their highest handicap player played off 28. The matches were closely contested and three of them finished on the 17th hole and one finished on the 18th..
In addition to the regional final, the Mid Herts team, who have used a squad of only 13 players this season, also qualified for the Lexus League finals day at East Herts on Friday, November 1. Meanwhile, former Mid Herts junior Tom Lewis finished in a tie for third at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.
Hanna Burke finished 15th in the Ladies European Tour event at Aquitaine in France having led after the first round.
Teaching pro Lucy Williams finished 11th, her best ever finish in an LET Access Tour event, at Stoke by Nayland. Lucy Goddard, still an amateur who plays for the Mid Herts ladies scratch team, also qualified to play in the event.
