St Albans Rangers sink Welwyn
3:00pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Sport
St Albans Rangers Under-12 Reds were beaten 5-2 by Welwyn Pegasus Royals in the Herts Challenge Cup.
Rangers started brightly and although the opposition fielded three district players, the side were able to match them.
Goalkeeper Sam Hardie had a busy morning and made several good saves early on. The visitors took the lead, only to be pegged back after Ben Taylor netted after being played through on goal.
Rangers’ defence, with David Brinkley in the heart of the action, played very well, while Charlie Brook, Sam Brooks and Oli Taits impressed.
Hardie made a very brave one-on-one save just before half-time and got a boot in the groin for his troubles.
The second half saw Welwyn take the lead again, only for Taylor to level the match after a move involving Louis Shaw and Jack Kerr.
Man-of-the-match Hardie made a string of excellent saves but Welwyn’s quality told as they netted three goals to seal the win.
