Harpenden Bowling Club got their season off to a great start by winning their first three matches at home.
The opening victory was against a very depleted Owls team before the men beat Townsend on all four rinks for a 124-69 win. The top rink was Tony Smith, John Millins and Ken Murray.
The ladies edged to a 55-45 win at home to Hatfield, with Lyn Roberts, Avery Hills, Val Christiaans and Lesley Tutt the top rink.
The preliminary round of the men’s county singles saw Trevor Tharby lose 21-20 to J Penfold from North Mimms.
