St Albans CC suffered a 27-run defeat to Shenley Village in Herts Division One on Saturday.

Shenley Village won the toss and elected to bat first. St Albans made an excellent start, as Dan Rosson and Stanley Tinkler restricted Shenley to 14 off the first ten overs, both of them picking up a wicket in the process.

Jones then made another early breakthrough, before Shenley fought back through Kris Nissen, who made 52 important runs. He was later dismissed off the bowling of Mark Telkman, who continued his excellent form with the ball, finishing with figures of four for 44 off 12 overs. Some lower-order hitting saw Shenley recover from 90 for six to 165 for nine off their 53 overs.

The St Albans innings got off to a terrible start, as they were reduced to ten for four. St Albans then counter-attacked through Sandy Chanda and Syed Shah, the latter making 52 runs off 41 balls. However, the dismissal of Shah sparked another mini collapse, and St Albans were on the edge of defeat.

Despite the best efforts of Chanda (58), Nissen rounded off an excellent fielding performance from Shenley by cleaning up the tail and finishing with figures of seven for 56. St Albans were bowled out for 138 as Shenley Village picked up the win.

St Albans Seconds earned a four-wicket win over Hertingfordbury in Division Four.

Their opponents were dismissed for 142 in 51 overs and St Albans had few problems chasing down the total for the loss of six wickets.

The Thirds lost by 38 runs to Mill Hill Village in Division Seven.

Mill Hill scored 211 for eight from their innings which proved more than enough as St Albans were all out for 173 in 47 overs.

St Albans Fourths crashed to a six-wicket defeat to Chipperfield Clarendon Thirds in Division 11 West.

The Saints crumbled to 96 all out. Chipperfield reached the target for the loss of four wickets.
