St Albans Bowls Club’s Tricia Gascoine clinched a 21-17 win over Sele Farm’s Hazel Ottley in the national senior singles.

The weather again affected play with a very wet green at the start and rain during the game. It was a marathon match lasting nearly three hours with a total shot count of 38 over 29 ends.

Andy Kay played Rhys Lee of Barton le Clay in the London & Southern County Gold Badge Competition and lost 21-14.

St Albans defeated Hertford Castle 121-82 at the weekend. The top rink was Oliver Wall, Betty Lawrence, Andy Kay and John Bartlett (32-10).

St Albans ladies played Hemel Hempstead in a midweek match and eased to a 62-23 victory. The game had to be stopped at 15 ends due to heavy rain. The top rink was Sue Fogarty, Eileen Englebright and Diana Tribe.

St Albans’ midweek men played Townsend in a five-rink match, losing 81-50.
